Gravity Forms is one of the most popular form plugins for WordPress, and for good reason. Whether you need a simple contact form, a support request form, or a detailed survey, Gravity Forms makes it easy to build exactly what you need, no coding required. Here’s how to get started.

Step 1: Go to New Form

In your WordPress dashboard, hover over “Forms” in the left navigation menu and select “New Form.”

Step 2: Name and Create Your Form

A pop-up will appear asking you to give your form a title and an optional description. Fill those in and click “Create Form.” You’ll be taken to the form editor.

Step 3: Explore Your Field Options

On the right side of the editor, you’ll see all the fields available to you. Gravity Forms organizes them into four categories: Standard, Advanced, Post, and Pricing. Each category has different field types depending on what information you need to collect.

Step 4: Add Fields to Your Form

There are two ways to add a field. You can drag it from the right panel and drop it into the form area on the left, or you can simply click a field and it will be added automatically. You can then drag fields around to reorder them however you like.

Step 5: Edit and Customize Your Fields

Click on any field to open its editing options. You’ll find three tabs:

  • General – Set the field label, add a description, and mark it as required.
  • Appearance – Add placeholder text, adjust the field size, and apply a custom CSS class.
  • Advanced – Set conditional logic, default values, and more.

Pro tip: If you want to display two fields side by side, use Gravity Forms’ built-in CSS Ready Classes. Add gf_left_half to the first field and gf_right_half to the second. Click “Update” and preview the form to see how it looks. You can find the full list of CSS Ready Classes on the Gravity Forms documentation site.

Step 6: Add Your Form to a Page

Once your form is ready, go to the page where you want to display it. In the WordPress editor, click the “Add Form” button (it appears in the toolbar above the content editor). Find your form from the list, then click “Insert Form.” A shortcode will appear in your content, and your form will display automatically when the page is published or previewed.

Keep Exploring

Gravity Forms has a lot more to offer, including email notifications, confirmation messages, conditional logic, and integrations with tools like Mailchimp, Stripe, and HubSpot. Once you get the basics down, it’s worth exploring those features to get even more out of your forms.
